On Friday, we were privileged to host an LTC lunchtime CPD workshop run by UCL Digital Education colleagues, Drs Clive Young and Nataša Perović, on their ABC Curriculum Design approach. There were 32 participants from across all four colleges, and the energy in the room was indicative of the huge interest generated.

The ABC Curriculum Design approach is a paper exercise based on the types of learning design (learning types) identified by Diana Laurillard – acquisition, investigation, practice, communication (discussion), collaboration, and production – and the exercise enables course developers to think about the balance and sequence of different types of learning activities in a course, also considering opportunities for formative and summative assessment.
We will continue to collaborate with Clive and Nataša as they roll out their ABC approach internationally, in terms of further developing the approach and researching its effectiveness in different contexts. If you would like to be involved, and/or use this approach to plan your own blended curriculum, please get in touch with me at vicki.dale@glasgow.ac.uk. I’m keen to work with e-learning contacts across the colleges and colleagues in the Learning and Teaching Centre in implementing this structured approach to blended learning design.
